Most visitors to La Fortuna have to choose between the lake and the national park. The Flexi-Pass removes that choice. In a single 3.5-hour session, you will cross Lake Arenal by boat, step off at the Peninsula Trail inside Arenal Volcano National Park, hike to the observation tower, and then come back out to paddle along the lake’s shoreline on a kayak or paddleboard. Your national park entrance is included in the pass and remains valid for the full day, so if you want to return to the Coladas sector of the park afterward, the ticket gets you in. It is, simply, the most complete Arenal Lake experience available in a single booking.
What Is Included in the Arenal Lake Flexi-Pass?
The pass covers four activities: a boat ride that takes you close to the volcano, access to the Peninsula Trail inside Arenal Volcano National Park (with entrance tickets included), a kayak or stand-up paddleboard rental along the lake’s shoreline, and use of our floating playground. Equipment for the kayak or SUP session is provided. You will receive a bracelet at the time of booking that grants you entry at the Peninsula Trail visitor center — and since the ticket is good for the day, you can also visit the separate Coladas sector of the park if you want more hiking time after the Flexi-Pass session ends.
How Does the Day Actually Flow?
The activities follow a general sequence, though the order may shift slightly based on timing. Typically: boat ride out to the Peninsula area, time on the trail and observation tower, boat pickup back to the El Castillo side, then kayak or SUP along the shoreline with access to the floating playground. Our team handles the logistics and coordination between segments. You are not on your own — but you are also not following a strict tour timeline. The pace feels open rather than scheduled, which is exactly the point of the Flexi-Pass name.
How Is This Different From the Guided National Park Adventure?
The key difference is guided versus self-guided. Our Arenal Volcano National Park Adventure is a fully guided tour with a knowledgeable local guide who explains the park’s geology, history, and wildlife throughout. That tour is 4.5 hours and covers two separate trail sections, including one with close views of the volcano. The Flexi-Pass is better suited to travelers who prefer to explore at their own pace and do not need constant narration. For the on-water portion, the Flexi-Pass also pairs naturally with a standalone Arenal Lake kayaking tour, if you want more time on the water on a separate day. If you prefer seeing the lake without paddling, the Arenal Lake boat ride is available as a standalone 1-hour booking.

Can I use the floating playground during the Flexi-Pass?
Yes. The kayak and paddleboard portion of the Flexi-Pass takes you along the same section of the lake where the floating playground is anchored. You are welcome to stop, swim, and use the slide and tower during your rental time.
