Safari Float in Peñas Blancas River

Rivers are the lifelines of the rainforest. Rainfall and erosion carry minerals, seeds, and nutrients from the highlands, flowing downstream and nurturing everything in their path. That’s why lush vegetation naturally thrives along riverbanks, and many animals use these waterways as natural corridors through the forest.

The Peñas Blancas River, for this very reason, offers an excellent opportunity to observe wildlife such as howler monkeys, sloths, herons, a variety of smaller birds, iguanas, and many other fascinating inhabitants of this rich ecosystem.

Join our floating safari and enjoy the peaceful rhythm of the river. It’s a comfortable and relaxing way to experience the rainforest—let the current carry you as you take in the sights, sounds, and serenity, all while giving your legs a well-earned rest.

The river journey lasts approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the water flow. Afterward, delight in a traditional homemade treat and refreshing seasonal juice, lovingly prepared by Doña Mila and her family.

Activity location

Frecuently asked questions:

Can I drive to the starting point of the tour?
Unfortunately, this is not possible. Once we enter the river, we do not return to the original starting point. Instead, we take a different route back to La Fortuna. For this reason, you will need to either be picked up by our team at your accommodation or drive to our office in La Fortuna, where the tour begins.

Where can I leave my car?
You are welcome to park at our office, which has a secure interior parking lot. Restrooms are available on-site, and there is also a convenience store if you’d like to grab a snack or drink before the tour.

How large are the excursion groups?
Once on the river, group sizes are limited by raft capacity, which typically accommodates up to 8 people.

What is the minimum age for this tour?
Children are welcome to join as long as they can safely wear a life jacket. We ask that parents or guardians actively supervise young children throughout the activity. Our child-sized life jackets generally fit children aged 2 years and older.
